I'm excited to write this post!
The basic structure of the site is complete. Now that I've added the blog and links sections I consider the site to be serviceable. Please feel free to visit all of the site's sections! Despite having worked with websites at my old job, I feel like this has been a fun and learning experience. This is the first time I can call a website my own. There is still much work to be done, so this blog post will serve as a to-do list. While the list is primarily intended for me, feel free to read what changes you can expect on the site coming up!
To-do:
- Pretty much all of the site currently uses the same CSS classes as the Updates section, each section needs structures that best suit it's needs.
- Ties into the previous point but all text on the site is currently centered horizontally. This needs to be changed in the places where it is inappropriate.
- There currently is no database attached. I need to decide on whether I would like to add it. If I decide no, then I need to write a script that generates pre-rendered static pages from data saved locally on my computer, so that there is some semblance of order.
- Another way to look at the previous point would be: "There is currently no backend, I need to consider if there ought to be one."
- An RSS XML file tied to the Blog section needs to be added.
- The About and Main sections need a major overhaul. So does the Blog!
- Blog posts should have categories.
- The site needs different styles, so the user can choose whichever one they prefer.
- The site is currently accessible through this silly link. I should figure out a way to disable this.
- I'm not completely satisfied with the way the site is currently styled by default. To be exact, I'm not sure if I would like to keep the current content box structure. Need to think about this.
- Need to add credit to Spike Chunsoft somewhere on the site since I'm using Danganronpa assets for presentation.
- Site is currently not very mobile friendly. This is not a priority, but it is something to keep in mind.
- Consider adding a guestbook.
- Consider adding a video game review section.
These are just some of the points that I still need to consider and implement. The list is not ordered by importance or implementation order. It is entirely possible I've forgotten to jot something down, but I'm sure that I'll get to it eventually. Since I am not self-hosting the site and am on an unpaid hosting plan, there are some technical limitations that I'm dealing with, but I dont believe these will be super prohibitive to implementing the points listed. With this, I can conclude the first blog post. Please look forward to the changes coming to the site!
